About What’s On In Port
We started our website to provide a platform to promote events, dining, things to do and see in Port Douglas, as there was no other website that provided all this information under the one roof.
Our following grew rapidly as locals and visitors alike were enjoying the wealth of information now available at their fingertips, in an easy to navigate format.
Many local businesses also joined our page to advertise their wares as our popularity grew. We now advertise for hairdressers, beauty salons, massage, retail stores, cafes, restaurants, mechanics, pool maintenance and sporting clubs as well as providing access to not for profit companies to list their services and community events.
We love being part of our community and have developed several campaigns to the region over the past two years.
In 2019 we brought you the “Easter Treasure Hunt” where we had a treasure map with over a dozen businesses in town involved and the kids had to complete their treasure map, then find the specially marked Easter Egg for the major prize. All prizes were donated from many local businesses, and it was a free community event. We had over two hundred children racing around for the egg hunt, and we raised over $1000 for the Neighborhood Centre from our sausage sizzle on the day.
In 2020 we were all affected by the devastating bushfires raging through our country. We created the “Mates Helping Mates Bushfire Appeal” and held a massive community garage sale in conjunction with a family fun day and cricket match at the Sports Centre on Australia Day. We coordinated again with local businesses for prize donations and the Crocs Football Team and Muddies Cricket Team to use their facilities, and raised over $15,000 that was donated to the Bendigo Bank Appeal. We also filled two trucks worth of clothing, homewares, bikes, toys and non perishable goods that were donated by the community, boxed and labelled by a group of amazing helpers and sent to Mallacoota for distribution.
In 2021 when COVID struck, we dedicated our Facebook page and website to promote every business who was still offering a service so they could survive through the crazy lockdowns and rules that restricted so many. We made sure everyone had a voice and was able to promote their business to our region.
